MARVELOUS MONDAY - 6 AUGUST 2018
Maybe it's just me, but every morning I wake and fight through the sleep in my eyes, and turn on the sound on my phone to hear the intense jingle of the BBC app and several notifications from Apple News. In an attempt to make Mondays something to look forward to, I'll be finding happy news stories and sharing them with you. My goal is to post every week and give a bit of love to the beautiful humans out there. I'd love to hear any positive news you've got on your side of the world!
There's been a breakthrough on the science front here in Australia! The work done at the University of Adaleide's Robison Research Institute may have found a way to take the stem cells of individuals with Cycstic Fibrosis, edit the genes through gene therapy, and reintroduce them back into the patient to prevent the diease from spreading.
For those like me that don't actually know what Cycstic Fibrosis is, it's a genetic condition that affects the lungs and digestive system by disrupting the digestive and exocrine system. The exocrine glands include salivary, mammary (milk-producing), ceruminous (sweat glands), lacrimal (eyes), sebaceous (skin), and mucous. Up until now there have been no cures, and apparently 1 in 25,000 babies are born with CF according to Cystic Fibrosis Org.
